Dee's Artistic Work

Dee has also followed her artistic passions particularly within the field of performing arts. She was a Director of Helsinki Attic Theatre between 2007-2013 and staged 7 plays, including a few in which she acted. In 2018 she also wrote and directed her own play performed at the Ainslie Gorman House. Dee has also organised two burlesque shows and been an avid writer, poet, photographer and Goth model. She is currently working with new art forms, including drawing and ceramics.

Helsinki Attic Theatre

Dee formed Helsinki Attic Theatre, a multicultural amateur thespian group in 2007. The group operated within the Caisa multicultural centre and brought together theatre enthusiasts of diverse backgrounds and origins. Staging plays ranging from tragedy to farce, the group featured prominently in the life of Helsinki's multicultural community. You can check Dee's past work as a director, actor and leader of the group here.

Trumpsformation

This symbolist and absurdist play examines the role of populism in contemporary law and politics. A little governmental town witnesses a small party of lions slowly gaining popularity and changing the shape of the community. At first dismissed as irrelevant, lions slowly become more powerful and their politics result in growing violence. The play draws on classics such as Rhinoceros to show the societal transformation and asks what makes populism popular and why people follow movements that promote racism, anti-migrant sentiment, backlash against women and gradual dissolving of rights and freedoms. It attempts to grapple with the question how populism can be stopped and what influence it has on our laws and freedoms. For performance rights contact Dee.

Burlesque Shows

Having dipped her toes in the world of burlesque, Dee has produced two shows in Canberra. The House of Tarot combined her passion of Tarot and burlesque bringing together local artists who reenacted the Major Arcana cards. Dee performed as the High Priestess. In 2020 she co-produced an Alice in Wonderland show where she performed her Blue Caterpillar dance.

Photography and Modelling

Dee has been a keen photographer and focused primarily on portraits, self portraits and nature photography. She is currently working on Canberra Oracle featuring her photographs from Canberra and the region. She has also modelled for various photographers primarily those focusing on Goth photography and female empowerment.

Ceramics

Dee discovered ceramics in 2021 and has been developing her skills since. She loves slab building and coil building focusing on sculpting creatures and plants from the natural world. She finds wheel throwing challenging, but she is patiently working on improving her skills.
